Liam Lynch Memorial Loop Walk (Newcastle)

Liam Lynch Memorial Loop Walk (Newcastle)

Length: 17 Kilometres (11 miles). Time: 5+ Hours

The Liam Lynch memorial (see Irish Identity and Wikipedia for more information on General Liam Lynch) lies on the wooded slopes of Crohan Mountain. This walk is quite long and hilly, so be prepared to set out in the morning and take a packed lunch. The route can be wet underfoot in places.

This track, which begins and ends in Newcastle, is not the same as the Liam Lynch Loop Walk, which is a National Waymarked Trail that begins and ends in Goatenbridge (you’ll find it listed in the Goatenbridge section of the Walks page). The reason for the confusion is that the monument is located between Newcastle and Goatenbridge and can be reached equally easily from both.
