Tour of the Knockmealdowns Cycle – May 19th 2013

The Knockmealdown Active  Tour of the Knockmealdowns Cycle was an incredible success on its inaugural run in May 2012, there are some photos here (and photos of the incredibly successful 2013 event here. There have been plenty of people looking for a date for the Tour of the Knockmealdowns Cycle 2013 and, as you’ve seen, it will take place on the third Sunday in May (note: this date has been changed, it was originally to run on May 5th but was changed due to other cycle related events happening that day).

The route pictured above is the longer route for 2013 which is not the same as that taken in 2012, but is an equally satisfying route highlighting all the Knockmealdowns have to offer. The Tour of the Knockmealdowns Cycle 2013 itself will be just over 90km long and this year there will also be a 40Km (see route at bottom of post). As per last year the event will start and complete in Ardfinnan, taking in all the Knockmealdown Active towns of Clogheen, Ballyporeen, Newcastle, Goatenbridge and back to Ardfinnan (there are also other towns in the trip). Just be aware that this year’s event is taking place on the same day as an Ardfinnan festival and the South Tipperary Tractor Run in aid of South Tipp Hospice – so there’ll be plenty in the town to keep all the family entertained. For this reason, parking will be outside of the town main street – at the Pure Drop carpark which is located at the Newcastle Road roundabout on the Clonmel road.

Registration will be  from 9am. The cycle will start at 10am sharp. Check back here for any late changes to the itinerary.

You can find accommodation at a number of local establishments, see our Accommodation Page for a list of them. We’ll put up the poster for the 2013 event once we have a copy.

Entry fee is €15 per person and just €10 for kids. There is also a €40 family ticket – great value for a wonderful day’s entertainment. There will be refreshments for all participants in The Pure Drop, Ardfinnan on completion of the event. For further details contact Seamus Butler on 087 904 9280 or Kevin O’Donnell on 086 354 1700.
