The Knockmealdown Mountain region isn’t that difficult to find travelling north or south as it is quite close to the M8 Motorway at Cahir and Mitchelstown.

Coming from the south-east it is most easily accessed over the Knockmealdown Mountains from Dungarvan to Clonmel or Cappoquin/Lismore to Clogheen. See the map of the general area below.

Ballyporeen, Clogheen and Ardfinnan are on the R665 road from Mitchelstown to Clonmel. Goatenbridge and Newcastle can be reached by branching off the road at Ardfinnan or Clogheen. Newcastle and Goatenbridge can also be reached by turning left at Knocklofty when travelling from Clonmel and Newcastle is accessible via a road that travels from Mount Melleray Abbey in Waterford over the Knockmealdown Mountains.
